The political movement called the Taliban was CREATED by Pakistan (with a lot of Saudi money and a little CIA involvement). It was managed off-stage by the Pakistani puppet masters, who have been pulling the strings all along. The Taliban served what was (& in some quarters, still is) perceived to be Pakistan's national interests: 1) To fend off Shiite Iranian influence to their West. 2) To keep Afghanistan weak and conflicted so as to prevent the uniting of the Pashtun tribal group --- which stretches across the borders in the South of BOTH Afghanistan and of Pakistan. 3) To neutralize threats coming from their West, so Pakistan could turn it military attention to it's fron on the East, the conflict with India. (To this aim, Pakistan has long been training and arming it's own 'pet terrorists' to fight against the Indians in Kashmir and against other enemies in Afghanistan... including Allied troops now, much as they used to fight against Soviet forces in the 'eighties. It is a 'dirty war' though... found with duplicity and dirty tricks. (Hell, Pakistan's ISI even wired $100,000 to Mohammed Atta the very week before the 9-11 attacks. You really thing THAT was a 'coincidence'? And the nuclear technology and nuclear weapons plans they sold to North Korea and to Libya... they CONTINUE to refuse ALL REQUESTS to allow American investigators to even TALK to A.Q. Khan.) SOME 'friend' you are sticking up for!
