Not sure, but the volume spike in Toronto this afternoon to 6.79 million shares looks to be one of the largest volume days ever, for PWT-UN (NYSE: PWE). There was also large block trading yesterday in this stock, both in NY and Toronto.

Toronto volume today was the largest since the Trust Tax smackdown of 31 October, 2006.

I think it must be related to the Canetic shares converting into PWE shares. The CNE position in my account has been zeroed out, but they haven't been replaced by PWE shares, yet.

I think it is index related buying. The newly merged company has reached a critical size, so that it has to be bought by indexers.

RE: PWE

I had "substitute shares" of CNE in the account yesterday. This AM I woke to find that they had morphed completely into PWE shares.

I have a funky odd lot size post conversion so I will be rounding that out to an integer multiple of 100 for option trading purposes. Perhaps others are doing the same.

It carries a different yield than CNE, so the fixed income types might also want to adjust, although I would suppose that they would have done that a while ago.

Ratings changes yesterday and the day before - some good, some bad:
