Typical Orange County News Story

thedefeatists.typepad.com

An 18-year-old Ladera Ranch woman was killed Tuesday when the Porsche she was driving spun out of control on the 241 toll road after clipping another car at a high rate of speed, authorities said. The woman's name was not released pending notification of relatives.

The accident occurred about 1:45 p.m. when the Porsche, going more than 100 mph just south of Alton Parkway, changed lanes, clipped the rear end of a gray Honda going the same direction and careened across several lanes into a toll plaza building. The Honda's driver was taken to a hospital with minor injuries. The cause of the accident is under investigation, authorities said.

I don't mean to disparage the victim, but it's not the most prudent decision to let an 18-year-old drive a European sports car. Then again, parents in my county prefer to show love for their children by bestowing expensive gifts which are quickly discarded or destroyed by their recipients instead of providing structure and valuable life lessons. So this sad case of playing Fast and Furious on a private toll road is quite indicative of the overall attitude of our sick state of affairs.
