Kerry,

>I am against compassion as a part of fiscal policy, but in my personal life I am generally a nice guy, sometimes a pushover.<

Idealism and short term thinking often interfere with sound long term judgment. People confuse a desire to make sound long term economic decisions that will help everyone with a lack of compassion. They don't bother checking how much people give to churches, charities, etc... that reflect their personal values.

Some people are willing to admit that their goals to expand government are bad economics and likely to do damage in the long term. However, they are willing to put short term needs above the long term good. I can at least cope with people like that because they are honest and understand the implications of their actions and desires. It's the fools and phoneys that are tough to cope with.

Then we just disagree on this one. Soulless politics is very unappealing to me. I prefer the sweat of humanity to the metallic scent of a well-oiled machine.
