Probably. I remember stopping one time in Phoenix for a hot dog. One for me, one for wife. At that time they were $1.50 each, no tax. I also picked up one can of soda marked 30 cents. Upon handing the girl a 5 spot she looked at it and broke into tears. When I asked her what was wrong she blared at me "I can't make change for that!" I had to tell her to give me back a dollar bill, 2 quarters and 2 dimes. I worked for Safeway the last 2 years of high school. The cash registers in those days didn't calculate tax for you, let alone change. I learned how to do this in my first night in the check stand with one of the experienced checkers looking over my shoulder. Later, we cut out play money from paper and I made damn sure my 2 kids could make change.
