US Chicken economy: poultry exports to Russia up 24.4%

18 Jan 2008

US poultry exports to Russia were up 24.4%. Despite Corn ethanol and all that. It is this chicken juggernaut that neds to kcik in an feed the planet.

Russians misbehave? Threaten them with the chicken weapon! Behave well else no chicken!

Despite the record high cost of poultry production in the United States due to corn prices and a drought

over the first 11 months of 2007, reported the US Poultry and Egg Export Council (USAPEEC).

Russia imported 812,200 tonnes of chicken meat, compared with 653,100 tonnes in the same period in 2006.
According to Albert Davleyev, vice president of the International Poultry Development Program and director of the USAPEEC mission, the increases can be attributed to the gaining popularity of poultry and the weakening dollar.
"Despite the record high cost of poultry production in the United States due to corn prices and a drought, American suppliers have considerably strengthened their positions on international markets thanks to the weakening dollar," Davleyev said in a statement. "While the dollar remained stable in the United States but kept falling abroad, Brazillian and European poultry has become more expensive and less competitive on international markets, Russia included."
