Japan is the exact opposite of the US -- an export oriented economy with a sky high savings rate and a current account surplus. The US is an import oriented economy with a massive current account deficit and paltry savings. Whatever happens in Japan, the exact opposite happens in the US. This is true today -- there is valid concern that the dollar will collapse and valid concern that the yen will skyrocket. Anybody who tries to make a link between what has happened in Japan and what is going to happen in America is a poorly informed fool IMO.
