I agree that pushing specific dogma like Creationism has no place in public schools, and I think it's a grave mistake for Christians to insist on such things. It diminishes their moral influence, which is sorely needed in both schools and government.

I have no quarrel with "In God We Trust" and the first four commandments. Non-believers can just interpret them as they wish. Non-believers can simply say that just means "Things will turn out OK."

To get back on topic, these subjects were implanted in our culture by our founding fathers and therefore have a perfect right to exist there.

There's no separation of church and state required by the constitution. In my view, the constitution is designed to protect believers and non-believers alike from the government.

Since we are discussing evolution----------

This is my philosophical take-----religion and evolution are coexistant.

Evolution is not a given fact--------it is a "theory" that we humans have developed over time in an attempt to understand the continuum of life and the universe. We do not know if it is true or false.

To anyone who doubts the religious side of the coexistance, I would suggest they take themselves to a mountain top and observe the stars and planets. Whatever your religion or lack of religion one cannot help but be awed and inspired by the universe and the ground on which we stand.
