If they both produce as good or better than planned for, they will be re-valued upward and good money to be made, much to look forward to. What it illustrates is that point in time when the exploration upside becomes exhausted as the certainty of becoming a mine changes the nature of the investor interested in the stock. So there is an extended period where the ownership changes and the stock languishes. Of course a take over could happen during that time too but often you sit on dead money between the loss of exploration allure and the emergence of pending production, that can be a long hold period.

Some investors just study the soon to be producers and buy them for the lift they get once they are producers.
