I believe that's the first time I've ever heard an argument like that! It's brilliant. Congratulations!

Brumar, the fact that dinosaurs and religions had a long innings doesn't mean they have the right stuff. In fact, so far, dinosaurs had more of the right stuff than religions. Religions have not lasted their first million years, let alone a few eons.

Leprosy and malaria have had a longer innings with humans than has religion. That doesn't mean they are desirable for the destination humans are heading for.

Religions are just tribal dominance hierarchy confiscatory macho institutions of public control based on intellectual weakness, fear and ignorance.

The communal function of religions is to exert control over the mob and direct them in unison for tribal success of the alpha males. See how Moslems line up by the thousand in rows like sardines in a can. Christians too, kneeling and rising on order like so many obedient robots.

The evolutionary success is of the individuals who comply rather than the community at large. The individuals who don't are eliminated in a process of stoning, burning at the stake, excommunication, and other problematic effects on their reproductive success.

If the entropy of the religious edicts is too great, the efficiency of the society will be too low and they won't compete with other societies and will go the way of the dinosaur. As with most things in nature, there is a balance. Too much or too little and it's evolutionarily the end of the line.

Brumar

Not ignoring your comments, I have to think about them for awhile.

Later.
