There goes your racist anti-English attitude again ElM. Not many people escaped to China from England. Plenty escaped FROM China [those who didn't get shot in the back or taken prisoner].

If you read the fine print in China's planned association with Taiwan, it includes, as it did with Tibet, conquest and confiscation.

Elsewhere, China is doing as Britain did 150 years earlier, which is buying and selling, moving in capital and people, moving out resources, moving in goods and services. China will back local yokels who back China. That's how it works. That's what Great Britain did too.

But Britain had the concept of freedom etc. Countries which became part of the British Empire had their citizens promoted to being British subjects. That became a big problem when the hordes started moving to Britain for the benefits so that was canceled. Especially as countries chose independence and totalitarian rule and civil war over being British which created any number of would-be refugees.

China will no doubt not make the same mistake. They'll just grab the resources and keep the local yokels at bay [not that the locals would want to move to the harsh reality of China where freedom doesn't exist]. China doesn't bother with that boring stuff about ethics.
