The US rightwing knows this, and know its leaders are guilty of pushing us toward fascism, ever since McCarthy in the 50's and even earlier. In fact in the 30's, rightwing industrialists tried to organize a mercenary-led military coup of the USA to replace our democracy with a military-industrial state. We are lucky that our Great Depression did not deliver us a fascist leader like it did in Germany and Italy. Instead we got FDR which was our saving grace. Fascism recently reared its ugly head when Bush-Cheney stole two elections, tried to get rid of the free press, used 9-11 to try and eliminate safeguards and a Hitler-style needless invasion of another country to try and stir up military nationalism. It did not work because the whole basis for the invasion was a fraud and that became clear. Also, these days it's harder to keep lying to the people. Eventually you're exposed and the Bushies have been. The rightwing propaganda meisters have been trying to change the meaning of the word "fascism" in the past two years, first trying to blame it on Islamic fundamentalists (but fascists are not about religion, mor are Islamic nuts a state), and now a book even calls liberals (the opposite of fascists) "fascist". This is all a weak cynical attempt to mask the rightwing's own fascism, which we can see very clearly these days. And it's the real reason why Bush-cheney are so roundly despised and distrusted. Never again can we let such military-industrial rightwingers take over our governmment, even if we have another terrorist attack.
