Instead of evaluating the PM markets by looking at the gold stocks themselves, I prefer to look at gold itself. STocks will always follow sooner or later...and their huge volatility makes it hard to have a good judgment.

And gold is currently saying that the breakout to new all time highs achieved in December is still alive. This leg up has more to go and soon.

A well balanced portfolio with gold, soon-to-be producers, developers with large reserves, and some speculative issues, all that covered with some hedges (ideally in the form of intermediate term puts in case of..you know what ), should work well.

This is an election year here in the US.
The incumbants will pull out all the stops in order to not to p*ss off the electorate I expect. Can one imagine them doing anything else?
An economic collapse would "guarantee" a Democrat victory. Be alert for further "stimulus" IMO. It's a no holds barred assault by the Repubs.
I thought this was an indicator when I posted it.

Oil, weapons, interest rates, cash giveaways, global arm twisting, threats and calling in IOU's are all tools that will be used if necessary. It's a fight to the finish.
Awaiting the second, third and fourth shoe to drop "as required".
Where does this leave gold? I expect that the US electorates sensory stimulus (401K's, investment cash etc) is attached to the stock market. If necessary, the decision will be made to let the rest of the cards fall where they may.
This is war.
All IMO.
Cheers
