You might use it as a guidepost, but it isn't a very good one.

Also if it served your partisan advantage I don't doubt that you would abandon it in a hurry. If a Democratic president becomes president just as a low birth rate cohort enters working years, I'm sure the Dems would all the sudden take note that 150K, isn't a very good guidepost. Or if a Republican president is in officer an creates more than that many jobs, but you have a lot of new people entering the workforce, neither you, nor most other partisan Dems are going to give the Republican a break because "well he's beating the guideline".
