you are missing the point. if you look at the peak short-term increments, like 5-minute increments, the volume was probably well over 10, 50, 100x normal volume, especially in select names. look at the order log at the open and compare it to normal. then come back to me with your conspiracy theory again. or actually don't come back. i think we can give this topic a rest and just agree to disagree.

I wouldn't be too suspicious. Say you're designing an etrade site. You'd estimate the average capacity and if the client wanted it, go some above it for busy days.

But, you wouldn't scale it to handle a panic. 90% of your capacity would be wasted the vast majority of the time. Plus, millions of trailing stops triggered, like mine that sold all my GLD.

Why did GLD go down? Rate cut, dollar goes down, gold goes up. Biggest rate cut in 28 years, gold goes down.

What happened there?
