You don't need both, and a reasonable person shouldn't even want both. A high minimum wage will put lots of people out of work, and push many others to work off the books.

Its only a living wage for high school students living at home and illegals.

Many of the people making it don't live off of it or try to do so. The are high schoolers, or otherwise dependents, or its a 2nd part time job for someone with a higher paying full time job, or its a job (often part time) for a spouse of someone making more than minimum wage. Less than 1.2% of all workers make minimum wage right now, and the percentage of all workers who are trying to support a family solely on minimum wage approaches zero.

A living wage shouldn't be the minimum wage because there are many people who don't need to live solely off the wage, but gain useful income, and work skills/habits from the job.
