You might also check Wikipedia, which will lead to to various sources, but is not as authoritative as the Dept. of Energy.

You could also run some conclusions by either TheOilDrum.com or the experts here.

Some of the statistics may be suspect, for example, there are numbers showing how energy efficent California is for electricty use, and they usually don't count industrial electricity produced by co-generation. California is a good size oil producer, and some heavy oil is produced by using the waste heat from an NG generator to make steam, after electricity has been produced.
