Chip, it is possible that the market could go up into early 2009 just as it did in the fall of 2000 which was the the equivalent on the model to early 2009, so I am remaining open to that possibility now despite my earlier pessimism. I did see an interview with Martin Armstrong from prison where he said that the markets could recover in 2008. One thing in your favour is the long chart of the spx from 1980, connect the lows of 82 and 2002, spx just found support on that extreme low trendline - as can be seen on my blog link below: Russ bp3.blogger.com
