The best off-hand held shotshell gun I know of is the old Thompson Contender .44mag barrel w/ a screw on splined choke which will take the .44 case + TC plactic shot capsules and 8 gr Bullseye for a ballisticly equivalent .410. On a 50' range the 8.5x11 paper target gets about 95% of the birdshot. PS: don't forget to unscrew the choke when you put those SJHP's in there.

Not recommended for combat; single-shot.
