No country in Europe that I know of has a deficit as huge as that of the US. What's scary for holders of US dollars is the rate of increase of the US debt. In comparison Europe is the sole of sobriety. Some European countries have only tiny deficits or slight surpluses. Some people here in Canada are dismayed that years of budget surpluses have increased the value of the Canadian dollar with respect to spendthrift neighbor the US. Japan, China etc. will have the same phenomenon. Everybody and his brother has a surplus with respect to trade with the US.
