Obviously, some people came greedy to the trough, and lied about incomes etc. OTOH, I believe the institution should be verifying income and ideally turning down those who could not realistically
handle "what they wanted"

I do know you are a pro in that business and like any such complicated widespread phenomenon, not everybody, every institution can be lumped in to the same category.
