KT,

Gibson's original comments:
thinkprogress.org

Pretty tough to defend, although one could fill a book with offensive comments from radio hosts. (This guy is on the radio, right?) I don't have a clue why homophobes would hate Brokeback. It isn't a gay pride movie to say the least. This movie makes being gay seem like the worst thing in the world.

Dork that I may be, my first thought on hearing about his death was that his supposedly incredibe portrayal of the Joker in the new Batman movie may have pushed him over the edge. The divorce and who knows what else may have contributed, although I don't know the scoop right now on what has done him in.

Here is more detail about what Gibson said. And, just as a way of putting this in context, Joe Scarbourough is not a liberal. He is an ex-Congressman, one of Newt's contract with America conservatives. mediamatters.org;

I am so glad I missed that. Hate is so much more grown up and rational than hope.
Hope sucks.
