But I think the training can advance certain males- eventually. Just as being a soldier will advance certain males- though not very many of them. But this dovetails rather neatly with the power of the variable reward- right? It's a lottery.

So combine the lottery aspect, with the societal rewards of acceptance for "brave" behavior, and you've got a pretty good cocktail- to be a little punny.
