Metallurgical coal used to make steel, or thermal coal to make heat (for electricity or home heating).

One is much harder and burns a lot hotter, good got reducing iron ore to iron (and thence to steel).

I guess Dave answered you
Met coal for making steel
Thermal for power generation
Sounds to me like its power shortages driving it now? The met craze years ago was for steel in China and all that entailed.

Met=FDG.un
It's had a move already. supposedly in play. WTE is proxy on it. So is TCK.b in my mind. Plus you get all the other goodies Tech has going for it. Zn, gold, oil sands etc. I have been buying Tech all through its latest downfall much to my chagrin. Too much Coxe here I guess.

Purest thermal play I am aware of is RU.un. Potash kicker to boot.
S is another.
BTW I just do Canadian stocks so not aware of what goes on in the States.

We beat the hell out of coal in '04/'05 on iHub. All the new cos. that started up are in the crapper or defunct now I think-quit following them.
PVM,WTN,GCE,NNE.a etc-met plays I think.
DD is all here not sure if it is relevant or not now.

Personally I can't see going back there....Want coal - play the big boys with production imo.
