Food price side effects: China Eases Tolls for Food Trucks. Mexico cut import duties on food.(The Economist) So did China.

Distortions on the food market are being removed. Food prices are a potent weapon to kick goverments into removing subsidies and other tariffs.

All good and healthy developments.
Will have multiple effects on the world economy and welfare of people.

[-] Text [+] DAVOS, Switzerland, Jan 26 (Reuters) - A breakthrough in negotiations for a world trade deal is possible and the next two to three months will be crucial, Brazil's foreign minister said on Saturday.

"Differences are not so big any more in terms of numbers, sometimes they are bigger politically than in economic terms," Celso Amorim told reporters. "I am still hopeful that we will be able to do it."

He was speaking after ministers representing the United States, the European Union, India, and a dozen other countries met World Trade Organisation (WTO) chief Pascal Lamy to discuss the chances of getting a breakthrough in the Doha round
