ElM, food prices are rising because unlike the Made in China and biotelecosmictechdot.com effect for lots of things, the dilution of currencies is not hidden by huge productivity gains in regard to food production. And, there are LOTS of people wanting higher-end foods as famine disappears from history [other than in conflicts] and the global economy continues to boom [despite all the blather about the sub-prime woes].

Thank goodness for all that CO2 which boosts production and cuts water demand of plants.

There is no limit to food production increase. Production will boom as the profits attract more competitors.
