Re: Olympics is a one time event that is not such a big deal to most, especially those that are in a time zone across the world. How will it rescue anything?

Over a billion Chinese will be glued on their TV-sets watching the games and advertisements... Besides, when Olympics were set in Europe or North America, it used to be too expensive for most Asians to make the trip. Contrariwise, the Beijing Olympics are just a stone's throw away from Japan, Korea, even the Philippines! And the whole Olympics hoopla will buzz out all the doom-and-gloom about the Iraq war, the subprime crisis, etc. Mass psychology matters!
