Going through history, it appears the times when it was different are the exception, not the rule. Hell, the candidates were calling each other the equivalent of "fags" pretty openly before the Civil War and the campaigning was nasty, nasty, nasty. Ever read some of the stuff between Jefferson and Adams? Shit, we had a duel between a VP and a Secretary of the Treasury. Congressmen beat each other up on the floor of the House.

When I said different I meant much more liberal, much farther left. Now, with Bush and others in control of the dialog, the debate starts much farther right.

The American electoral system has always sucked. Can Obama fix it by virtue of his personal "awesomeness?"

The American electoral system isn't perfect, but it doesn't suck. And I never said anything about Obamas, um, "awesomeness?".

Sorry I upset you... not sure why. We just disagree, no big problem.
