Max,

$50 a month is not that bad for high speed. These crooks at Comcast bought out my old broadband company in this area (which is a monopoly) and within 2 months they increased my service fees by 45%. I am paying $59 a month now for basic cable high speed.

TD Ameritrade is not too bad and they stayed out of the mess that E trade got itself into. At periods of very high market volume they have a tendency to have some issues. Their charting service is very basic, but it is helpful. At Apex level you get L2 for free and a direct line to contact representatives quickly. I've been reasonably happy with them. I've also heard Interactive Brokers is good as well.

For the life of me I can't even begin to understand how you traded by phone.

Mike
