My personal opinion WRT war doctrine is that if at the end of the day you AREN'T willing to lay waste to an entire population then don't send our kids. War is ugly and our effort to sanitize it places our soldiers in a death by a thousand cuts scenario - not cool - not fair - not right. Either something is worth fighting over or it isn't. If it is then do it and finish the job as quickly as possible.
