While it may work for some, it will never work for me. For those in their 20's, 30's and 40's it could be a way to invest, but for those of us either in retirement or nearing it there are other more stable ways of investing.

--Well, it works a LOT better if you have had REITS and TIPS in your "core" portfolio, as you say you have had.

The question is, if you have had a stock index fund, REITS and TIPS in your "core" fund for 7 years, why do you need the "explore" portion?

Isn't it just dragging down your results?
