It was liberal versus conservative. I should have made that clear. It was kennedy (liberal)and LBJ that forced integration

You are omiting the fact those were Southern democrates who were almost all conservative. It was a conservative, liberal fight. Why do you think the entire south swiched from democrat to republican overnight?

The entire south used to be democratic because they were union states. Now they are all Republicans because the republican party represents the conservative's and the democratic pary represents the liberals.

The libertarian party represents the moderates I guess?

After the 1964 civil rights act the republicans went to the south and told them they would not enforce the 1964 civil rights act any more than they needed to (the dirty little secret).

LBJ said at the time the 1964 civil rights act was passed it would lose the south to the repbulicans for the next 50 years, which it has.

It is like saying Lincoln was a Republican. True, but the Rpublican party at the time was the liberal party. Lincoln was a liberal.
