When coupled with a follow-on career as a Texas rich kid that did nothing to broaden his interests or knowledge, I put it down as part of a pattern with a predictable result. Add the "coupled with," the pattern, I get it and I agree with you. As a stand-alone, not so much. "If you lived through one of the most intense, nation changing periods of our country's century and you seem to have skimmed right on past, waving pom poms, partying with frat friends and taking no intellectual or character position in the issues of the day, that says something about whether you likely have the character, intellect and grasp to become the most powerful person in the nation." I wasn't arguing the point of Bush's qualifications. I don't think he was qualified, either. I was challenging the claim of someone not offering a rationale for his position while criticizing another for being non-responsive. And, of course, there was my own curiosity as to what that rationale might be. If the "couple with" was implied, I missed it. I don't think just having been a dilettante frat boy is disqualifying.
