My fear is he will pick a category that is on the decline, like Tepper did with Auto Parts, or Lampert with Sears in a rough economy going forward. And tell investors its a cheap deal and then get the "bronx cheer" trying to close it.

I think its far better to pay a higher reasonable price in a "bull sector" like agriculture with a company he can add on and grow into a market that investors will approve and are excited about. But his background has not been to make industry picks, but rather to go with cheap value deals ("traps" ?).

Furthermore with his hedgefund "Magnetar Capital" out of Chicago he was investing and leveraging most recently in the mortgage space recently, not quite the right sector to be focusing on in the last quarter.
