There is no strong correlation between taxes and growth. That's a myth, a talking point, nothing more.

There is a strong correlation between taxes and debt. Reagan cut taxes and the deficit soared. Clinton raised taxes and the deficit shrunk. Bush cut taxes and the deficit soared again.

But where's the correlation to growth? GDP grew faster under Clinton than under Reagan or Bush. The difference being, during the Clinton expansion we actually generated enough federal revenue to pay our bills. Neither Reagan nor Bush were ever able to accomplish that simple feat. In fact it was quite the opposite, both lost money hand over fist during an expansion.

There's no magic cure for paying your bills. You have to pay them to make them go away. Republicans seem incapable of accepting this basic, simple reality.
