I don't think a complete financial collapse is coming either. Somehow we always seem to muddle through.

Personally I don't see it as gold versus GOOG. It makes sense to have a little of both in a LT portfolio.

You and Jay should start a TV show a point-counterpoint type. I bet you would make a lot of money. It definitely would be entertaining.

Sure you could have bought 1/4 oz of gold with a share of GOOG if you bought it at the bottom in 2004, now you can buy a little over 1/2 oz of gold with your share of GOOG, but GOOG is paper that I assume you would not be funding the reserves of your own personal central bank with? You're looking at a 3 year window on an arbitrary stock vs. 6000 years of history as legal tender currency, a streak unmatched by any other medium of exchange, none have been even close, besides sex.
