first it was blatant racism, not McGovern! "Blatant racism" like voting for the civil rights act in greater percentages than the Dems... And I never understood the disdain for Macgovern who was a great hero! Even if your right and he was so great, that doesn't mean that other people can't have different opinions, obviously a lot of them did. George McGovern: world war two fighter pilot (most of his squadren were killed), PHD I think and a man Bobby Kennedy called the most decent man in the senate. Its not about his war record or his personal decency but about his politics. And the south and conservatives preferred Richard Nixon. Great choice! Not a great couple of candidates to pick from, although I'm condemning Nixon with the benefit of hindsight. At the time there was no way to know about Watergate or the wage and price controls that Nixon supported. Now in retrospect who do you think was right, on that one: the liberals who LOVED and still LOVE McGovern or the conservatives who loved Richard Nixon. In retrospect? Neither? Judging only by the information available at the time? The conservatives.
