With 65% of average Americans (not just particular parties or organizations) wanting the troops home in a year, the sustainability of an open-ended policy is questionable in both social and economic terms, not to mention the US military's ability to sustain a sizeable deployment another 5-10 years. But the presidential vote in November should be a straight-up referendum on what people really want to see done. This isn't a traitorous minority viewpoint, it appears to be the majority voice of the US electorate. We'll see.
