I liked Connoly and would have voted for him. He was a slick mofo, and at the time, we needed a slick, smart mofo to deal with the Soviets.

When I worked at the LBJ Library, John Connoly declared bankruptcy. Late at night, a big rig arrived stuffed with his "historic memoribilia". Some of it may have been historic, but MOST of it was just valuable stuff he was hiding from his creditors with Lady Bird's help.
