I've come almost full circle as to my own view of Hillary and Billary and some weird kind of co-presidency going on behind the scenes, if that should be the case. As one, however, who looks at both the US and world economies on a daily basis, I'm yearning for the kind of fiscal governance that took place under Bill Clinton. No matter how one feels about Bill, it WAS a period of peace and prosperity marked by dramatically declining deficits. Wonky old Bill, who got slammed for 'micro-managing' things, tweaked the tax code and the budgetary processes endlessly throughout his presidency. He took a little from this group to give to that group, changing up the mix a little each year and enduring criticism from ALL the groups at one time or another by the time he was finished. It was exactly the way he governed the state of Arkansas. By the time he left, he'd made every special interest group in the state angry. Why? Because so few people can take an apolitical view of an economy and see the complexity and symbiotic nature of all the special-interest segments. At any rate, the beauty of the Clinton style of governance is that there were minimal dislocations to the economy caused by his tax tweaking and policy changes. This is not an easy task, and to be successful at it, political ideologies must sometimes be abandoned. My assumption is that Hillary will govern the same way, and if Bill is back there somewhere helping her along, it's quite fine with me. The NY Post referred to this last week as "The 2-Headed Monstor"......I guess to scare people? As for me, if it takes a hydra to restore this country to the fiscal integrity of the Clinton years, then let's go find one, please!
