Syb, my youngest daughter spent a couple of months traveling Europe after college graduation four years ago.

One of the first things she said in an email was "Mom, it's so cool here......people aren't fat in Europe!"

It became kind of a family joke that against all the history, architecture, etc. etc., she was so excited and impressed by the relative size of the public over there.

Speaking of Obama and his affect on the young. This same child moved to NYC exactly one year ago. She has always been a blithe spirit by nature, and her vocations have her niched into a world of theater and music.

Her current boyfriend, an artist, is an illegal from the Czech Republic whose last name even she can't pronounce.

My love for history and politics makes her roll her eyes. I think you kind of have a mental picture of this girl.

Two weeks ago she called me with two questions. One was how to make 'real' mashed potatoes. The other was how to register to vote.

She had watched Obama's speech after the Iowa caucuses and wants to vote for him.
