I worked with a guy that was on the 15 th wave to hit the beaches of Normandy. He told me stories about it back when I was in my 20's and I will never forget those tales which gave me a graphic picture of war, long before I watched," Private Ryan." He was in charge of an animal building I had to inspect and we were always away from most of the other employees so he had a chance to talk at length. I will always cherish those conversations. My son was just in Europe and he spent one night talking to a Dutchman who was part of the resistance when the Americans invaded..............There is no substitute for those survivor stories. The guy claimed to have killed 11 Germans in hand to hand combat with a "silent" weapon. My son said he also could still drink like a pro tho he was now quite old. He also bought my son several drinks as he was still grateful to all Americans.
