Still, as little as your insurer paid for the negotiated rate, it was probably a multiple of what MediCare pays.

I'm going to watch that carefully. I just got Medicare coverage this month. Medicare pays first and Blue Cross second. I know from the experience of friends that, with the over-kill combination, I probably won't have to pay anything out of pocket. So I should be able to see the billed price, the Medicare payment, the Blue Cross payment, and how much the provider ate. I'm almost looking forward to being ill so I can check it out first hand. <g>

it was probably a multiple of what MediCare pays.

According to my policy, Blue Cross for some things pays 20 percent on top of what Medicare pays. But sometimes they pay the difference between what Medicare pays and what they would otherwise pay. I'm not sure about all that. That's why I plan to watch. It's too hard to tell from just reading the policies.

[The reason I carry all that is because of a personal foible of mine--I don't deal well with the paperwork. So I don't want to owe anyone anything and I don't want to get any overpayment checks from anyone. I'm paying a lot extra, I think, for the convenience of not having to handle anything. I hope it plays out that way.]
