This race for the White House has wearied me for months now. It makes me think of another passage from Ecclesiastes: "I saw that all who lived and walked under the sun followed the youth, the king's successor. There was no end to all the people who were before them. But those who came later were not pleased with the successor. This too is meaningless, a chasing after the wind." (chapter 4:15-16)

Or, a line from a 60's song could be a nominee's anthem, "I will win the worship in their eyes and I will lose it." (MacArthur's Park)

Every president is heralded by their fanatic supporters as the One With The Answers, only to be turned on by them later as their human frailty erodes the facade they created during their campaign.
