I am sure that like all successful politicians Obama is something of an opportunist. If you aren't, you can't win. (imo)

I think "experience" often means "I know how things are done and I'm going to do them the same way." I don't value that much. There's plenty of it out there, and it keeps things chugging along, but I don't really want it for leadership. I want someone who looks at things in a fresh new way. Obama may not be that person, but if people think he is, he will attract those kinds of people to him. That might be enough. Hillary is not going to attract those kinds of people, so for me that's a big negative for Hillary. Not that I won't vote for whatever candidate the dems put before me- any of their candidates fullfil my agenda better than any of the republicans.

I agree with you Neal. It's a lot easier to oppose the Iraq war as an obscure state senator from Illinois than as a Senator from New York with the full weight of the usual lobbies bearing on you.
