Well, I would blame both parties for that, but Republicans much more so. Democrats tried (belatedly, after the absurd 2002 "debate" on Iraq and after 2003 or so) to hold hearings, but couldn't get enough Republican votes to do it. Eventually, they just held their own unofficial hearings, without the power of subpeona and not very well covered, though C-Span did cover them somewhat. I think maybe 1 Republican gave them support, I don't recall who, perhaps the Congressman from NC who turned against the war relatively early on after being a hawk in the beginning.
