But since the new pres will want those powers, none of them will probably campaign against it. As you say, it's hard to give up power, and our executive just gets more and more powerful.

I think that it is worth noting that this is exactly how conservatives see the government overall. Once a program is put into place, it is virtually impossible to undo it.

Where we would probably differ is that I think there is a better chance of undoing the Patriot Act than the Medicare prescription drug benefit. The Patriot Act would be difficult, but the drug benefit (or any similar entitlement) is nearly untouchable.
