"Things that are good in moderation can be highly deleterious when taken to excess. IMHO the US budget deficit is excessive. The only way to control budgets is through spending restraint."

Absolutely correct!

And --- just my personal opinion here --- since it seems that politicians from ALL PARTIES, and across wide expanses of time, have so consistently FAILED to keep spending down, taxes low, and run balanced fiscally parsimonious books... it seems the PROBLEM IS ENDEMIC to out system of governance.

It is STRUCTURAL --- not just a matter of weak 'personalities' among our political class.

And so... I suggest that ONLY a STRUCTURAL CHANGE to our system of government can ever rectify the endemic problem.

My suggestion is to change our HIGHEST LAW, the US Constitution.

(Because I can think of nothing else that clever pols couldn't manage to wiggle around with ease....)

A Balanced Budget Amendment is the only think that I believe stands a change.

All else likely results in the continued endless growth of government and endless debasement of the currency and sub-optimal economic results... eventually followed by inevitable collapse.
