Ted,

Have you listened to one of Obama's speeches or are you afraid you might like what you hear?

What I have heard so far was compleely devoid of meaning. But ok, maybe it is my fault that I have refused so far to sit through a complete claptrap, so I am listening to his SC victory speach.

8 minutes into the speach was 8 minutes of emptyness.

on 9 minute, he alludes to some vision he never defines

from 10th to 12 minutes he jumps from pshychobable to empty slogans to sob stories.

12 to 14 minutes: more slogans, I am going to puke if he says "change" again

14 to 16 minute: standard vanilla campaign speech stuff.

Complete waste of time...

Joe

Ok, trying Obama again. Listening to "Our Kids, Our Future" speech given in New Hampshire.

1 to 6 minute ok, he defines the problem (that his friends at NEA are responsible for)

6 to 8 minute he seems to be talking as if the problem of US education was that of disparity between poor and not poor education across the board

8 to 9 minute he is making a commitment to education. Gee, how revolutionary

9 to 10 minute - criticises No Child Left behind (sucking up to NEA that detests testing? Or just a symptom of BDA - if it was Bushes idea, it must be wrong.

10 to 11 minute - whining about resources - BS - more NEA pandering.

11 to 12 minute - criticises testing - more NEA pandering.

12 to 13 minute - platitudes - lets get together, it will be hard

13 to 14 minute - commitment to special education. Gee, let me guess who wats more commitment more money going into a bottomless pit? You guessed, NEA.

15 to 19 minute early learning education - generalities - expand pre-K. Federalize spending - why?

19 to 20 minute reward educators - gee, what a surprise. Who might he be pandering to?

20 to 21 minute "I wanna be the president who rewards them [teachers]". New scholarships to teachers, more pandering to NEA.

21 to 22 minute - generalities, platitudes, pondering

22 to 23 minute - more pandering to NEA

23 to 24 minute - more pandering to NEA

25 to 26 minute - railing against testing - to please NEA

26 to 27 minute - "We will develop assessments that don't just test..."

27 to 28 minute - making excuses for failure of inner city and poor district schools

28 to 29 minute - general purpose campaign promises.

29 to 30 minute - Parents need to be involved - EUREKA!

30 to 31 minute - turn off the TV - EUREKA!

32 minute - general purpose campaigning

If I read this speech, just the text, I would never have guessed if it was given by Obama, Clinton, Dodd, Biden, Richardson or Cucinich (I hope I am not missing anyone). The bottom line is, if Obama is elected, education will continue to go downhill - because he does not dare to touch the sacred cow - NEA.

But I have to give this to Obama: He said that education begins at conception. (at 16:20) Gee, did he clear that with NOW and Planned Parenthood? Good thing I am the only person in this country who listened to the entire speech without falling asleep. Otherwise, he would have some explaining to do to the abortion constituency.

Anyway, another complete waste of time...

BTW, I am beginning to see the correlation between the emptiness of Obama speeches and the emptiness of the minds of his supporters. No wonder that the dumbest part of the electorate (the young) are supporting him with the greatest intensity.

Joe
