I love East Tennessee and visit it regularly. Go to Johnson City and Jonesboro which is the capital of story telling. Elizabethton.. too.. They like Boone have some of the most wonderfully friendly,warm and caring people... if you don't talk politics or religion. I have also become fond of blue grass other music peculiar to the mountains. My family settled in ET from Ohio back in the 50's and never looked back. Gorgeous scenery, the people are as you describe (including your injunction to not discuss politics or religion <g>), no state income tax. The list could go on and on. Chattanooga's downtown renaissance has been a wonder to behold. I am content living in my mountain retreat, but am tempted to buy or rent a studio apartment downtown just so I can be near the scene-in-making.
